Lord says, “I will heal their apostasy” (ESV, NASB). Instead of “apostasy,” other translations have “waywardness” (NIV), “backsliding” (KJV), or “disloyalty” (NRSV). The Hebrew word, though, is the same word translated “return” in verses 1 and 2. In verse 4, the word refers to turning away from God instead of turning to him. So God said that when they turned to him, he was going to heal their turning away. Then in the second part of verse 4, God said, “My anger has turned from them” (ESV). “Turned”
